Each person (staff or student) comes from a different background and to effectively deal with issues that arise because of these differences, all parties must be aware of the cultural norms of other students and staff as well as of their own ideology pertaining to various backgrounds. Without this understanding, these issues and differences may blur the lines of communication between students and staff, often prohibiting the opportunity for quality instruction to take place.
Our Diversity Training will help to identify factors that often negatively affect the interactions between students and educators from different cultures. In this training, we will explore different understandings and thought processes that can be employed to minimize the negative effects of the following ideals:
- Preconceived notions
- Socioeconomic status
- Sensitivity to perceptions
